The New Zealand team has faced huge humiliation after losing the three-match test series against Australia by 3-0. And now before the T20 series against India, they have suffered a big blow.
The series between India and New Zealand is scheduled to begin on January 24. But, before this series, India will play a 3-match ODI series against Australia from 14th January.
Latham was New Zealand's stand-in captain in the third and final Test against Australia. Latham injured his finger on the fourth day after taking the catch. Despite the injury, the left-handed batsman came out to bat in the second innings and faced 15 balls before getting out for one run.
New Zealand Cricket management said in a statement that an X-ray has confirmed the fracture on his finger and the injury would take about four weeks to recover.
Latham will recover his fitness in time and will be available for the ODI series against India in February. While New Zealand's T20I team for the 5-match T20 series will be announced next week.
