South Asian Games 2019: Bangladesh women cricket team wins gold, sets a world record

In the 13th South Asian Games played in Nepal, the Bangladesh women's team has won the gold medal in cricket. In the final, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in a thrilling match by two runs and won the gold medal in cricket for the first time.

Host Nepal defeated Maldives to finish third and won the bronze medal. Significantly, the Under 23 team from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh participated and for this reason, only the matches played between Nepal and Maldives were T20 International.

In the round-robin stage, Bangladesh team won the match by winning three out of three and Sri Lanka made it to the finals by winning two out of three matches. Nepal had won one of the three matches, while the Maldives had lost all three of the three matches.

In the final, Bangladesh batted first and scored 91/8, in response Sri Lanka scored 89/9. Bangladesh's Nahida Akhtar was also adjudged Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament. She took 8 wickets in the tournament and two wickets in the final match.
