IPL 2019: Punjab beat Rajasthan Royals by 14 runs, Gayle creates history, 4 records created

Kings XI Punjab beat Rajasthan Royals by 14 runs in the fourth match of the IPL 2019 played in Jaipur. Batting first, Kings XI Punjab scored 184/4 in 20 overs. In response, Rajasthan score 170/9, Chris Gayle was adjudged Man of the Match for his spectacular half-century.

Kings XI Punjab Innings:

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, Kings XI Punjab had poor start with KL Rahul was dismissed in the first over.

Later, Gayle smacked 79 runs off 47 balls with eight fours and four sixes and added 84 partnership with Sarfaraz Khan for the third wicket. Sarfaraz Khan played a brilliant inning of 46 runs off 29 balls and helped the team cross 175.

Rajasthan Royals Innings:

In reply, the Rajasthan Royals started had a brilliant start and scored 64 runs without any loss wickets in the powerplay. Jos Butler scored his half-century in just 29 balls and added 78 runs partnership with Ajinkya Rahane (27) for the first wicket.

Royals scored 96 runs on the loss of one wicket in 10 oners and needed 89 runs to win in the last 10 overs. In the 13th over, Ashwin surprised everyone, Butler was mankaded at the bowling end. Butler scored 69 runs off 43 balls.

In the last three overs, Rajasthan needed 35 runs to win. Ben Stokes was also out in the 18th over and Rahul Tripathi was run out for one run and lost the match by 14 runs.

1. This is KXIP’s first victory at Jaipur in IPL against Royals out of six encounters.

2. This is the first such instance of a player has been mankaded in IPL - Jos Buttler by Ravichandran Ashwin.

3. Gayle created history in this match, he completed 4000 runs in IPL and become the fastest player to achieve this feat.

4. Gayle has become jointly the second foreign batsman to score most 50+ score. He has scored 31 fifty plus so far in IPL.
