Indian team star wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik is celebrating his 35th birthday today. Karthik was born on 1 June 1985 in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
Dinesh Karthik's Struggle:
The 35-years-old had to struggle a lot to get a permanent place in the Indian team. He made his International debut even before MS Dhoni. On 5 September 2004, he made his debut at Lords against England as a wicket-keeper batsman.
A few months later, Karthik was included in the Indian test team, but unfortunately, his performance was below average in the longer format as he scored just 1 half-century in 10 matches.
His frequent poor performance benefited Mahendra Singh Dhoni. As soon as Dhoni got his place in the Indian team, Karthik was excluded and had no option to make a comeback.
Dhoni cemented his place with his consistent performance and no other Indian player could replace him at that time. However, Karthik continued to struggle and selected as a backup wicketkeeper and a middle-order batsman in between.
Dinesh Karthik's story is no less than a movie story where Karthik was constantly trying to gain a foothold in the Indian team, on the other hand, his wife Nikita betrayed him and settled in with his friend Murali Vijay.
In 2012, Nikita and Murali's relationship was revealed, they ended their 5-year marriage in 2012 and divorced Nikita. Murali and Karthik used to play for Tamil Nadu in Ranji and were good friends but after this incident, they both did not talk to each other.
In 2013, he married squash player Deepika Pallikal. However, Karthik had to work very hard to propose her. Karthik did not let all of this come in the way of his career despite such a difficult situation.
Dinesh Karthik has always been bought at a higher bid in the IPL Auction. He was a part of Delhi, Punjab, Bangalore and Gujarat franchise. But, in 2018 his life changed when Kolkata Knight Riders dropped Gambhir and handed over the captaincy of the team to Dinesh Karthik.
He scored 498 runs as a captain and at the same time, Team India was looking for a middle-order batsman. Karthik capitalized on this opportunity and got a place in the team.
Making a return to the team, he proved his importance in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, India needed 5 runs off the last ball in the final match against Bangladesh and gave the team victory by hitting a six. After this match, his career took a tremendous turn, after the 2007 World Cup, he was selected in the Indian team after a 12-year long gap in 2019.
The Tamil Nadu and KKR captain have scored 1025 runs in 26 Test matches. As a wicketkeeper, he has 51 catches, 5 stumps to his name. In ODIs, he has scored 1752 runs in 90 matches and took 53 catches and 7 stumpings. While in T20Is he has scored 399 runs in 32 matches and 3654 IPL runs in 182 matches.
