U19 CWC: India thrashed New Zealand by 44 runs, Qualified for the quarter-finals

On Friday, India played their third match of the group stage against New Zealand at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. After winning the toss, the Black Caps asked the Men in Blue to bat first.

Batting first, The Priyam Garg-led team batted well and reached 100 runs without losing any wickets in 21 overs, but then it rained and it affected the match.

The match was reduced to 23 overs per over. The defending champions came back to bat again for just two overs and ended their innings at 115-0. Both the openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyansh Saxena remained unbeaten, after scoring 57 and 52 respectively.
In response, New Zealand was given a revised target of 192. During the chase, the Kiwi team got off to a great start, as they reached 90 runs in just nine overs. But then came the spin duo of Atharva Ankolekar and Ravi Bishnoi, who broke the Kiwi batting order.

The two spinners shared seven wickets and helped India qualify for the quarter-finals. Bishnoi received the 'Player of the Match' award for another outstanding performance.
Apart from India and New Zealand match, there were two more matches in the competition, they were also affected by the rain.

Afghanistan played against Canada and the match was abandoned without a single ball, and since Afghanistan won the first two matches, they qualified for the quarter-finals.

In another match, which was played between Pakistan and Bangladesh, this match also ended in no result due to rain. Both teams shared points and qualified for the quarter-finals.
