In the first season of Indian Premier League, the star-studded Mumbai Indians finished the tournament at fifth spot and seventh place in 2009. After two poor seasons, Mumbai Indians reached the finals in 2010 and ended as runners-up.

After that, they reached the playoffs in 2011 and 2012 and finally crowned as the IPL champions in 2013 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

In 2014, Mumbai knockout in Qualifiers in playoffs and in 2015 they won the title again for the second time. While in 2016, the team finished at fifth place and lifted the title again in 2017. And recently in the last season, they ended the tournament at fifth place.
