Bangladesh has announced its men's and women's cricket teams for the 2019 South Asian Games which is being held in Nepal from December 1 to December 10.
The men's team will be captained by Najmul Hussain and the team includes legendary players like Soumya Sarkar and Afif Hussain. Apart from this, the women's team captain will be Salma Khatun.
U-23 teams from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka will participate in the South Asian Games. The first match between Nepal and Sri Lanka will be played on 3 December. While India and Pakistan have opted not to participate in this edition.
After 9 years, cricket has returned to the South Asian Games. Cricket was last played in 2010, in which Bangladesh won the gold medal.
After being named as the captain, Najmul Hussain said that our goal is to win the gold medal. As far as I know, it is very cold in Nepal at this time, so we have to adjust as soon as possible with the conditions there.
On the other hand, Habibul Bashar, who was in the national selection committee, said that we had a chance to take 3 players above the U-23, so we included Soumya Sarkar in the team.
The women's team's fast bowler Jahanara Alam also hoped to win the gold medal. She said that we are getting a chance to play in the South Asian Games for the first time and we want to make it memorable.
