SA vs SL: South Africa needed 5 runs off 6 balls in 1st T20, Match decided in Super over, See scorecard

After winning the ODI series by 5-0 against Sri Lanka. The visitors Sri Lanka and South Africa are playing 3-match T20 series. While, In the first T20 match which was played in Newlands, Capetown on Tuesday.

In this match, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka in the Super over and took 1-0 lead in the T20 series and David Miller who played a good knock of 41 (23) won the Player of the match award.

Earlier in the day, the South African captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and invited the Lankan team to bat first. Batting first the visitors had a poor start and lost two big wickets for 7 runs in 2 overs. Later Kamindu Mendis batted well for 41 and took Sri Lanka to a decent total of 134/7 in 20 overs.

In response, South Africa also had a poor start and lost 3 wickets for 52 in 9.3 overs but it was the Miller-van der Dussen partnership that got them going and added 66 runs stand for the 4th wicket. Miller scored 41 off 23 balls and Dussen contributed 35 off 30 balls.

But both got out in the 16 over of the chase to spell panic in the camp. Tremendous bowling by Malinga, in his second spell he gave just 3 runs and took 2 wickets in 2 overs, he was simply outstanding in the death.

South Africa needed 5 of the last over, the left-handed pacer, Isuru Udana held his nerves and delivered the right balls on right time and if wicket-keeper Niroshan hadn't missed the run out of the last ball, now Sri Lanka would have won the match by 1 run.

The Thrilling Super over:

Sri Lanka's 134 never looked threatening until South Africa did the choke act, again. They were let off thanks to a missed direct hit by Niroshan of the last ball from a lesser distance to go into the Super Over.

Miller who had a pretty good day keeping behind wickets in places of Kock and later did well to take Malinga for 14 runs in the Super Over. Tahir had the ball for South Africa and the team took a big gamble, it paid off for Faf and Co. as the leg-spinner defended the 14 runs and gave just 5 runs.
